Khumbu Climber - 10 Oct to 7 Nov '04

This Khumbu Climber trip was a success and provided a wonderful experience for all its team members. For nearly the whole trip we had perfect weather and therefore staggering views across the Himalaya. Our Sirdar Sherpa (an Everest summiteer) and his staff were very helpful and the team enjoyed their company.

Pokalde 5,800m (Climbed 20th October)
We set off from high camp in probably the coldest temperatures of the whole trip, the ridge was clear of snow and provided an interesting scramble. Summiteers: David Anderson, David Elphick, Andrew Hepbourne-Scott, William Hepbourne-Scott, Jen Larsen, Simon Rowland and Peter Schultz.

Island Peak 6,189m (Climbed 23rd October)
The mountain was in perfect condition for our ascent with crisp snow slopes leading to the fixed ropes and the fantastically sharp summit ridge. We were fortunate to have the summit to ourselves and took our time to enjoy the spectacular views of Lhotse and Makalu. Summiteers: David Anderson, William Hepbourne-Scott, Jen Larsen, Simon Rowland and Peter Schultz.

Lobuje East 6,019m (Climbed 28th October)
Due to snowfall on the 27th we were forced to have an extra day at high camp before a successful ascent the following morning. The climbing beyond the initial ridge provided some of the most memorable of the trip. Summiteers: Andrew Hepbourne-Scott, William Hepbourne-Scott, Jen Larsen, Simon Rowland and Peter Schultz.

During the time spent on Lobuje East, Ed Drake and Dave Elphick went up to Gorak Shep and ascended Kala Pattar (5,545m) for the view of Everest.

After crossing the Cho La the group enjoyed two sunny days at Gokyo. Ed Drake, Jen Larsen, Simon Rowland and Peter Schultz climbed Ngozumpa-tse (5,500m) (otherwise known as Knobby View) for spectacular views of the Everest Horseshoe, whilst David Elphick and Andrew Hepbourne-Scott climbed Gokyo Ri (5,300m).
