Ski Ecuador
Introduction
High altitude ski mountaineering on the equator as we aim for four of Ecuador's iconic summits including Chimborazo (6,310m). Between summits we relax in comfortable haciendas with delicious meals. We land in Quito which is at over 2,800m so our acclimatisation begins immediately on arrival. The first part of the trip is spent acclimatising as we visit the city then enjoy two hikes to 4,200m, then 4,650m. ur first mountaineering objective is a scramble on foot to Illiniza North (5,126m).We then prepare our ski kit for Cayambe (5,790m) on which we are likely to enjoy the best skiing of the trip. 5,703m Antisana is our next objective which we ascend from our camp at 4,600m. After a most welcome rest day we head for our final peak, Chimborazo. At 6310m it is Ecuador's highest point and the furthest point from the centre of the earth. If the weather and winds permit, we will enjoy traversing the mountain, ascending by the normal route before skiing down the north side.
The ascents are essentially day tours from our hotels, mountain huts and from tents on Antisana. We will have porters to carry our camping equipment.
